Back from Mississippi... alive and in one piece. :)

Update after I get all my homework done... lol.

Friday, March 09, 2007

By this time tomorrow, I'll be heading to Mississippi! I'm excited, and a little nervous at same time (because I'm weird and get nervous about stupid stuff). So I will be gone until Saturday the 17th. Kinda wish I was going home for a week, but oh well, it'll be summer before I know it.
So I hope everyone's weeks are wonderful, and don't miss me too much! lol. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures when I get back :)
P.S. I added a song to my blog... if you haven't listened to it yet, you should :P

I must say, I am feeling much better. I've been taking cold medicine, and it's really helping!
I can't believe how slow this week is going! I suppose since it's the week before Spring Break, and I'm really looking forward to Mississippi!
I got my iPod yesterday! I know, I splurged... a lot... but I really like it. It's nice to walk to class with (although it's really hard not to sing along with it, I will spare people's eardrums) and it will be nice for the long van rides to Mississippi.
Last night I volunteered for S.O.S (Safety on our Sidewalks). Basically, I sat there and did my homework, and waited for someone to ask for a walk. S.O.S. offers walks to anywhere on campus from the Library and the Cartwright Center to anyone who doesn't want to walk alone in the dark. We were there from 8:30-11:30, so it wasn't so bad, and I got a lot of homework done. And... if you volunteer 6 times, you get a t-shirt! I think it's a good way to volunteer, and we only had 2 walks last night, both of them our friends... lol. And S.O.S. is actually how my aunt and uncle met, how cute is that?

Ugh. I really hope I'm not getting sick. I have this sore throat, and it's not like a usual sore throat, it feels like it's much deeper in my chest. It really ended up starting last night at supper, and it got worse during my concert. I was hoping I would sleep it off, but I didn't. If I get sick, I really won't want to be in Mississippi, I'd hate backing out, but I'm sure they'd understand... but this would be a great opportunity. I still have a few days, so I guess I'll just have to see how it goes. I took some cold medicine, hopefully that'll help.
And today's the day. I have 2 Midterms (well, one is really only a quiz...) and so if I make it through today, I should be set. :)

Sunday, March 04, 2007

Wow. I hate Midterm week. I have to write 1 English paper, revise another one, do a Quiz game in English, write a Soc paper, take a Music Listening midterm (which I heard was really hard), and take a Bio Lab quiz.
Talk about crazy. But as long as I can make it through this week, it'll all be good.
This weekend was way too short. I hate going home and not actually being able to hardly spend any time at home.
Well... time to go study... but oh wait, the roommate just came in the room to talk on her phone. We'll see what I can get done then.

What icky weather. It's dark outside, and every once in awhile a little snowflake floats by. We didn't get all that much snow, just enough to cover the ground and make all the sidewalks as slippery as heck. I can't count how many times I slid and almost fell.
Happy March 1st! I can't believe it's March already, and I've been in school for almost 6 weeks! Then only 8 more to go :) I've heard from a lot of people that this semester went by fast for them too, so I suppose I should enjoy it. Although it seems like just yesterday was move-in day. I think this semester is going by faster too because I'm taking classes that I actually enjoy. I should be done with all my Gen. Eds. soon, and then be able to take English classes like there's no tomorrow! Although I still have to choose a minor, I'm kinda leaning towards Sociology, but we'll see.
Let's hope when I schedule next semester's classes, I'm a little smarter. I'm not liking eating lunch at 10 a.m.

So, I always knew the squirrels here in La Crosse were a little crazy. But now that we have 2 feet of snow on the ground, they're hilarious!
And one of the funniest things you will see in life: a guy thinking he's all that, strutting along when all of a sudden he slips on some ice. He does a quick recovery, and then looks around to see who saw him. It's really very hard not to laugh at them.
Valerie. I wish I could be at La X international (I think the same thing when I hear about that!). Next year, Spring Break?

Sunday, February 25, 2007

I wish my batteries wouldn't have died in my camera. The snow outside looks so pretty! I'd say we have about... 2 feet. And right now it's just showing these HUGE fluffy snowflakes... it looks awesome :)
I'm feeling better. Just up and down up and down... yeah, it sucks, but I'll hopefully get out of it soon. I think when I'm alone and I have time to think, that's when it's the worst, so I try to keep busy with my friends and such.
My weekened in Roch didn't work out so well because of the snow. We ended up coming back early yesterday morning while there was a lull in the storm. We made it safe and sound back to La X... and it really started blizzarding last night at around 8... I couldn't believe the people that still went out! I guess if you need to drink, you need to drink, but I was going to stay in and watch movies with my friends, thank you very much.
The whole reason we went to Roch was to see my friend Maria's friend Ellen perform in the pit for Beauty and the Beast. We did this as a musical last year, and I too was in pit (she plays the clarinet too!). I was so impressed by everything, they had an auditorium and a real pit, and they had violins in their pit... it was amazing. Makes me wish I had gone to a bigger school... but I liked the smallness of my high school. A lot of people can't believe when I tell them I graduated with 59... and that their class was bigger than my entire school, and their school is bigger than my entire town!
To compare the 2 productions... our costumes were way better than theirs. This Belle's dress didn't hold a candle to my friend Kayla's (who played Belle... made her own dress... picture the movie... yep, looks just like it.) But, our acting didn't hold a candle to theirs. Lumiere and Lefou were AMAZING and definitely made the play.
Hmm... Clare's phone keeps ringing. Betcha it's her boyfriend. Should I tell her? Nah. Maybe if I actually would have gotten to sleep in my own room last night, in my own bed, instead of on my friends' futon, I'd consider it. :) She'll find it eventually.

Well, that's enough of my long posts.

Oh. And since I haven't been in the greatest mood lately, Valerie said in her blog to post what you're thankful for.
~My family. Even though I don't realize it all the time, I don't know what I would do without all their help and support.
~My friends. I seriously don't think I could survive anything without them... especially when I need a futon to sleep on!
~College. Even though I hate it at times, I really am blessed to have this opportunity.

Thursday, February 22, 2007

I'm just in that icky mood again. I really wish it would go away. I ended up skipping IV tonight because I needed to study for Sociology (I'm taking a break before my brain explodes). And I get a call from Miranda at about 6:50 telling me that there's a mandatory meeting for the Mississippi trip all the way across campus? I'm sorry, but I need to study. And why did Erin (the organizer) not try to contact me at all? I gave her my e-mail address and told her that was the best way to contact me, and nothing from her. I told Miranda that I wasn't going to go, if she could get the information for me, and if there's anything more I need to know, Erin can call me.
I think I'm just really homesick. I mean, it's been 5 weeks since I've been home. That's my longest time away from home ever. And yeah, I'm really looking forward to this weekend and next... hopefully they'll help me take my mind off things... I really hope I get out of this rut soon. Because I pretty much just yelled at Aaron for no reason whatsoever, and UGH.

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

I still really can't believe that this is the 5th week of the semester already. And I have a feeling it's going to go by super fast. This weekend I'm going home with my friend Maria to Rochester. The weekend after that I'm going home to get all the things I need for Mississippi. The week after that is midterms. Then, it's Spring Break :) Mississippi, here I come :D. I'm excited, but kinda nervous at the same time. It should be a lot of fun though.
Tonight I went out to eat with my friend Amy. Her parents got her a gift certificate to Grizzly's. All I can say is... YUM. Although whenever I eat out my tummy gets upset, guess I'm used to bland Whitney food! And, I had a Pepper Jack Chicken sandwich... so so good. So much for eating healthy... I'm worse than I was 1st semester! I don't think I'm going to lose another 30 lbs.!
Well... Bio Lab report time! I'm almost done, and I'm not procrastinating this time :)

Allison
P.S. Suggest some blogs for me to read? Did I ask this before? lol. Or, feel free to suggest my blog to people :P

Saturday, February 17, 2007

So it's Saturday night at 10:15 and I'm sitting in my room. Everyone was going to a movie, and I didn't feel so well, so I thought I'd just chill in my room and relax. I did get out a bit though. A couple of my friends and I went to The Vagina Monologues. A girl (who I couldn't stand) from my Women's Studies class was in it, and she did a really good job. Needless to say, it was quite interesting. It had some really good points, and other parts were hilarious. But not anything you'd want to see with your parents... hehe.
Well... I think I'm going to put in a movie and crash.

Allison
Oh, and give me some good blogs to read? lol... like I need another way to procrastinate :P
Because everyone else is still passed out... lol.
5 things that people don't know about me... hmmm this could be tough.

1. I fall hard and fast for any boy that's nice to me. Doesn't matter who he is or what he looks like, if he's nice to me, BAM. Because duh, why would you fall for someone who is mean to you?

2. If I'm pissed off at you, I'm not going to tell you. I will tell everyone but you. I guess you could say I don't like conflict, and want to avoid it at all costs.

3. So mom just told me these were supposed to be weird things? Haha. Ok then. I'm in band, and I'm pretty sure I'm tone deaf. That's 6+ years of pretending I knew when I was in tune, praying that I really was.

4. I'm a college freshman sitting in my dorm room watching Veggie Tales. 'Nuff said. Italian Scallion... hahahahahahaha.

5. I hate the phone. Well, more like I hate calling people. Guess I've had a few experiences with the wrong number, and I'm paranoid like that.

Ok, so the first 2 weren't so weird. But the last 3 were! lol.

So, tell me this. Why would you get sick in the sink, when you had to walk past 3 toilets to get to said sink? Crazy drunk people. I hope I have enough sense to never get that drunk... lol.

Although La X is trying to pass this public intoxication ordinance, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. It basically says that if a cop sees you, and he thinks you're drunk, he can give you a ticket without giving you a breathalizer. Even if you're not drunk, and request one, he still doesn't have to give it to you before he gives you a ticket. Which I think is stupid. Even though I don't drink, I still think this is a violation. You should be innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. Because even if you're not drinking, you can only get your ticket reduced so much. But I'm assuming you have to be obviously drunk before they do anything. If stupid people would learn how to stay away from the river...

Hmm... not much more to update on. Guess I'll see if I can get some homework done before everyone else wakes up.

4 weeks down. 3 to go. I can't believe how fast this semester is flying by! I have my first bio exam next week, so that should be interesting. I'll just have to get out of this room to study. I'm really hoping this semester will be the one that brings my GPA back up, and hopefully sometime I'll retake Pre-Calc.
So, you've all seen the Princess Diaries, right? Well, the other day I pulled a Princess Mia. No, I didn't get sick in front of my class while giving my speech. But, I was combing my hair and it got stuck on a snarl, and SNAP! Yep, I broke my comb. It was quite funny... who knew my hair was that bad? haha... but now I don't have a comb... lol.
Next weekend I will be traveling with my lovely friend Maria to Rochester to see their musical (plus, one of Clare's friends is coming up, good reason for me to leave!). And I was put on the probably list for Mississippi, so I can't back out now! Let's hope everything goes alright!
Also I may get to go to Jr. High Convo!! I went to that 2 years, and then I went to Sr. High Convo for 3 years in high school and I always had so much fun. There's a local church here that's looking for chaperones, and she said if I let her know by March 1st, there was a good probability that I would get to go for free! So that's another thing I'll have to be thinking about. She also said their church is looking for a new youth paster... which would be AMAZING, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet.
Well, I have to go finish Sociology. I'm leaning towards a sociology minor, so we'll have to see how this class goes!

Allison got a Valentine from a boy!!!!

Ok fine. Everyone in our cube got a Valentine from a boy. But still. Makes me feel special anyways!

No mom, I didn't wear my sandals tonight. Good old tennies! We went to Tequila... an amazing Mexican restaurant that is very cheap! It was so much fun, but I always fill up on chips & salsa! And I guess it wasn't just us single ladies, it was a girls night out :)

Valarie, band is going amazingly well! We have a concert in about a month that I am really looking forward to! The music is really easy, and I didn't realize how much I missed it all!

Monday, February 12, 2007

Owwwie. I have a HUGE canker sore in my mouth. I'm thinking I stabbed my gums when I was trying to brush my teeth Friday night. Hm, yeah, don't ask. But it just feels like a canker sore. I'm not really looking forward to having to play in band with it. Hmm... maybe it's a good thing I don't have a Valentine? lol.
My friend Mel asked me if I wanted to go out to eat on Tuesday night. I guess us single ladies are getting all dolled up, hopping on the public transportation, and going somewhere to eat. Good thing I brought back my black pants, although I don't think I have any shoes... :(. The ones I do have could be a little chilly, and they probably wouldn't be too good considering how slushy it is around here.
I knew the homework would start piling up! Tonight I have to write a paper for English, 2 papers for Spanish (well, technically I only have to write one... I want to get a start on the other one, and read for English. My goal is to have it all done by 8 so I can go chill in the triple! I attempted to do homework down there last night, and it didn't work so well.
Hmmm... not much new I don't think. I'm still debating the Mississippi trip, we'll see how much more information I get.
Well, I think I'm going to go do my dishes quick before band. Hope everyone is doing well :)

Sunday, February 11, 2007

So... I feel much better than I did last week. I don't know what was wrong with me, guess I was just a little bit down in the dumps.
I can't believe 3 weeks has gone by already. That means only 4 left until Spring Break! I still don't know about going to Mississippi, I don't have a whole lot of information about it yet. So if I don't hear anything in about a week, I don't know if I still want to go.
Well, I have a headache, so I think I'm going to go lay down to see if I can get rid of it...

Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Ack. Why does everything have to be so confusing? I feel like I could just crawl in bed and sleep for days... and cry... I don't know what's wrong with me! Nothing sad or bad has happend... I just... I don't know.

And I hate roommates.

Yeah. Crabby entry. Hope I'll get over it soon.

Sunday, February 04, 2007

Aaron and Liz came up to visit me this weekend. I felt bad, it was so cold out and we really didn't do anything. We did drive out to Onalaska and go shopping though, which was nice. I really liked having a car! Especially for church this morning, then we didn't have to worry about sneaking out early to catch the bus or walking back to campus.
Not a whole lot going on exciting lately. I guess I'm waiting for the homework to start piling on. I haven't had a whole lot, and frankly, it's scaring me. Because I know it's going to start soon. 2 weeks down, 5 to go until midterm. And Spring Break! I'm thinking about going to Mississippi during Spring Break for a mission trip, to do Katrina Relief. It would be all paid for, I could get a scholarship. But, we'd go from Saturday-Saturday, meaning I wouldn't get to go home at all. Which, wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. I think I could make it not going home. But it would be nice to. Who knows. I guess I have a while to think about it.

I want a boyfriend. My friends and their boyfriends make me jealous... lol.

I miss you guys like crazy....
Sunny days seem to hurt the most.
I wear the pain like a heavy coat.
I feel you everywhere I go.
I see your smile, I see your face,
I hear you laughin' in the rain.
I still can't believe you're gone.

It ain't fair: you died too young,
Like the story that had just begun,
But death tore the pages all away.
God knows how I miss you,
All the hell that I've been through,
Just knowin' no-one could take your place.
An' sometimes I wonder,
Who'd you be today?

Would you see the world?
Would you chase your dreams?
Settle down with a family,
I wonder what would you name your babies?
Some days the sky's so blue,
I feel like I can talk to you,
An' I know it might sound crazy.

It ain't fair: you died too young,
Like the story that had just begun,
But death tore the pages all away.
God knows how I miss you,
All the hell that I've been through,
Just knowin' no-one could take your place.
An' sometimes I wonder,
Who you'd be today?

Today, today, today.
Today, today, today.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most.
I wear the pain like a heavy coat.
The only thing that gives me hope,
Is I know I'll see you again some day.
Some day, some day, some day.

I turned on CMT... and that song was playing. I just can't believe it's been 3 years...

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

So. I knew I was out of shape. But I didn't realize how out of shape I was until my first band rehersal last night. Holy cow. This has been the longest I've gone without playing my clarinet since.... 6th grade? I haven't touched it since May. I could barely hold a whole note. And I have this lovely little indent in the bottom of my lip. I suppose I'll get used to it again.
But on the bright side, we're playing 2 songs that I've already played before. One is Overture for Winds and I ABSOLUTELY loved this song when we played it last year! It was definitely a clarinet song... lol. Only this time I'm playing 2nd clarinet, instead of first, so that takes a little bit of adjustment. And we're playing a song that I played at Honor's Band last year, I don't remember the name of it though. And this time I have the exact same part. I get to sit by Maria since she's the only oboe, so I'm pretty pumped about that!
Another thing about being in band is that there's all these couples. And I guess my friend Becky is bound and determined to set me up with someone. So, we will have to see. There were a couple of cuties in there, but I'm guessing they're the ones that are already taken.... lol. Plus, the gay guy that is really cute... haha. Aren't they all?
Anyways... that's enough... time for me to get ready for EspaƱol.
