Ah, it's Wednesday... Laundry day. Ick. I don't mind doing laundry... it's just the fact that I have to drag it all the way down to the basement, and then all the way back up again. Oh well. It's good exercise. I've also decided to quit eating dessert at every meal. I've noticed that every time I eat at Whitney, I take a dessert, even if it's one that's not that great. So, I'm going to quit all together. And I'm going to start drinking skim milk instead of 2%. I know it's not much... but I figure every little bit will help!
I'm so excited for tomorrow! My friend Kayla is coming from Chicago, and I haven't seen her since Christmas! All of us Fennimore girls in La X are getting together with her, and it should be a blast! We're going out to eat, and then to a movie. So I guess I'll have to go to the ATM lol.
Time to do some homework so I don't have to do it tomorrow night! hehe.

So mom posted a video that reminded her of 5th grade. I decided to follow suite! I remember being so excited when they would randomly play this video on Disney Channel (since I wasn't allowed to watch MTV!) I don't know what's worse: remembering all the words or the fact that I was singing along with it?

Wow. I can't believe how fast this week went. And there's only 6 more weeks of classes left (7 including finals... I think?). This year just flew by. I was talking to one of the girls that I went to Mississippi with, Audra, and she's a Super (5th year) Senior. She said that if I thought Freshman Year flew by, I should just wait for all the others. And that's kind of a really scary thought...
Tonight I went to the UW-La Crosse Music Gala. It was basically all of the music ensembles here on campus performing... with the exception of Symphonic Band. I don't get why we didn't play, but whatever. It was cool... I didn't realize I knew so many people around campus! lol. But every ensemble that played, I knew at least 2 or 3 people in it.
Tomorrow we're going to hike the bluffs. I'll be sure to take my camera to get some pretty pictures of La Crosse from way up there... lol.
Well... it's almost 2 a.m... and way past Allison's bedtime. I'm off :)

Oh, and I took a new profile picture, because I was bored and thought it would be fun :)

Mississippi was awesome. I couldn't believe all of the damage down there though. They said it would take at least 10 years just to rebuild everything to Pre-Katrina status, and that doesn't include growth. Warning: this post is probably not dial-up safe, and I'm sorry.
There were 16 college students (ranging from 19-29) and 2 leaders that went with us. We left bright and early on Saturday morning, and stayed in West Memphis on Saturday night. We were in Ocean Springs, MS by Sunday evening. We started working Monday. We cleared a yard for a lady, who's husband was an invalid, and she wasn't able to keep up the yard herself. Most of these work pictures are not mine, I didn't trust myself with the camera at the work sites.
This was the yard that we worked on. It was covered with vines that had washed in with the flood and started growing in the yard.

The next day we gutted out a house. I think most of agreed that we should just get some gasoline and a match, but this was a historical house. It had flood damage, and the salt water shorted out the electricity and caused a fire. There was also a lot of termite damage. We basically tore the plaster off the walls.

Back from Mississippi... alive and in one piece. :)

Update after I get all my homework done... lol.

Friday, March 09, 2007

By this time tomorrow, I'll be heading to Mississippi! I'm excited, and a little nervous at same time (because I'm weird and get nervous about stupid stuff). So I will be gone until Saturday the 17th. Kinda wish I was going home for a week, but oh well, it'll be summer before I know it.
So I hope everyone's weeks are wonderful, and don't miss me too much! lol. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures when I get back :)
P.S. I added a song to my blog... if you haven't listened to it yet, you should :P

I must say, I am feeling much better. I've been taking cold medicine, and it's really helping!
I can't believe how slow this week is going! I suppose since it's the week before Spring Break, and I'm really looking forward to Mississippi!
I got my iPod yesterday! I know, I splurged... a lot... but I really like it. It's nice to walk to class with (although it's really hard not to sing along with it, I will spare people's eardrums) and it will be nice for the long van rides to Mississippi.
Last night I volunteered for S.O.S (Safety on our Sidewalks). Basically, I sat there and did my homework, and waited for someone to ask for a walk. S.O.S. offers walks to anywhere on campus from the Library and the Cartwright Center to anyone who doesn't want to walk alone in the dark. We were there from 8:30-11:30, so it wasn't so bad, and I got a lot of homework done. And... if you volunteer 6 times, you get a t-shirt! I think it's a good way to volunteer, and we only had 2 walks last night, both of them our friends... lol. And S.O.S. is actually how my aunt and uncle met, how cute is that?

Ugh. I really hope I'm not getting sick. I have this sore throat, and it's not like a usual sore throat, it feels like it's much deeper in my chest. It really ended up starting last night at supper, and it got worse during my concert. I was hoping I would sleep it off, but I didn't. If I get sick, I really won't want to be in Mississippi, I'd hate backing out, but I'm sure they'd understand... but this would be a great opportunity. I still have a few days, so I guess I'll just have to see how it goes. I took some cold medicine, hopefully that'll help.
And today's the day. I have 2 Midterms (well, one is really only a quiz...) and so if I make it through today, I should be set. :)

Sunday, March 04, 2007

Wow. I hate Midterm week. I have to write 1 English paper, revise another one, do a Quiz game in English, write a Soc paper, take a Music Listening midterm (which I heard was really hard), and take a Bio Lab quiz.
Talk about crazy. But as long as I can make it through this week, it'll all be good.
This weekend was way too short. I hate going home and not actually being able to hardly spend any time at home.
Well... time to go study... but oh wait, the roommate just came in the room to talk on her phone. We'll see what I can get done then.

What icky weather. It's dark outside, and every once in awhile a little snowflake floats by. We didn't get all that much snow, just enough to cover the ground and make all the sidewalks as slippery as heck. I can't count how many times I slid and almost fell.
Happy March 1st! I can't believe it's March already, and I've been in school for almost 6 weeks! Then only 8 more to go :) I've heard from a lot of people that this semester went by fast for them too, so I suppose I should enjoy it. Although it seems like just yesterday was move-in day. I think this semester is going by faster too because I'm taking classes that I actually enjoy. I should be done with all my Gen. Eds. soon, and then be able to take English classes like there's no tomorrow! Although I still have to choose a minor, I'm kinda leaning towards Sociology, but we'll see.
Let's hope when I schedule next semester's classes, I'm a little smarter. I'm not liking eating lunch at 10 a.m.
